If 300 individuals contributing $100, our minimum operational needs are met. 1,500 individuals donating, services would expand.
If 1,000 businesses contributing $1,500 a year Foundation Radio will have enough to do a full operation in Jackson, Michigan.

Our goal is to avoid asking for donations on the air!

Please send your contribution by check or money order. The Foundation values every dollar given. Electronic forms of transactions can cost up to 10%.
Example, a $100 donation would be $90 after transaction fees are paid. A $1,500 donation would be $1,350. Please help us use your donation wisely.

Equipment Upgrades
Foundation Radio started out doing several websites and an audio stream on the Internet. It is time to up-grade this equipment as well as add additional equipment to the system.

    $30,000
New automation system. These are computers which will download feeds, sequence the programming and also store the programming. The system that Foundation Radio is considering will have the ability to grab and download Internet feeds. This will allow for recorded church services and similar programming to be broadcasted. In addition, remotes from different locations can be scheduled into the programming. This system will also include a new audio production computer and the software needed to operate.

    $50,000
Currently Foundation Radio is using the Internet to get the programming to the transmitter sites. A microwave STL (Studio to Transmitter Link) will allow the signal to reach the transmitters by a medium that is not controlled by others. It will also allow to have separate programming on the different stations.

    $250,000 each station
Foundation Radio has the opportunity to upgrade signals.

WJKQ 88.5 Jackson, Michigan will have increased power and antenna height. The location being considered for the Jackson station will have the ability to include studios.

WAQQ 88.3 Onsted, Michigan will have the ability to have increased power and antenna height. Currently the signal is very, very weak.

      Additional Stations
Homer, Hastings, and Lowell, Michigan have been granted licenses or construction permits for radio stations by the Foundation.

Jackson, Michigan. Foundation Radio holds the license for an additional radio station in Jackson, beside WJKQ. The tentative plans for all these stations are to continue community programming and not compete with the commercial stations. They do a good job.

Going Green

    $1,000,000
Foundation Radio wishes to take all the stations green. This means that the transmitters would not be on the electrical grid. Instead the transmitter sites would be paid to contribute surplus energy to the electrical grid. A combination of solar panels and wind energy will be used to power the transmitters. The estimated price will make it possible to make about 11/2 of the stations green.

New Broadcasting Services

    $1,000,000 each television station
Foundation Radio has been asked to take over two community television stations. Digital Television has the opportunity to have three sub-channels along with the main broadcasting channel. The concept will be to use the sub-channels to create PEG channels (Public, Education, and Government) that we are all familiar with on cable television. The problem with cable is that if you are not subscribed to cable, these service are not available. No decision has been made, but a commitment of $1,000,000 for each station will move this project forward.

    $500,000
Foundation Radio has a construction permit for a 100,000 watt station in the Upper Peninsula. This station would cover about 3/4 of the Upper Peninsula.

    $500,000
There is a new camera system called Red One. Think of the cameras television stations use for news coverage but with the resolution to make movies for theaters. With all the accessories and doo-dads each camera is about $50,000 complete. This will allow the Foundation to make quality video for the Internet, television, and movie theaters. It will also have the ability to tie the cameras together for studio work. Think of the studio part of television news. The resolution makes high definition television a step down from this system. The Foundation will have the ability to create public service announcements for worthwhile organizations, or to make video specials, or if needed produce a full blown movie that could be promoting a specific apolitical cause such as child safety.

    $1,000,000
Foundation Radio has the ability to build and operate a multi-track recording studio which can produce albums and other audio materials. By having such a studio, the Foundation has the ability to produce any type of audio programming, especially for service organizations. Currently Foundation Radio, the broadcasting arm of the Foundation has created two campaigns. One is for the VFW National Home for Children and the other is for Aware, Inc. A service organization aiding those who have been victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. With a multi-track recording studio, the ability to offer reduced or free campaigns for similar groups will be possible.

Operational Underwriting

$50,000,000 The Foundation is attempting to create an operational trust fund that will take care of the day-to-day expenses of operating the radio stations and websites. The so-called monthlies would be paid out of the dividends from this trust fund. Thereby making the other contributions either for upgrades, or for special projects, or grow the trust. Part of these dividends would be used within the community for aiding in worthwhile projects. Yes, we ask for donations, yet forwarding a part of the Foundation's efforts will help to strengthen our community even more.

Programming

    $20,000
Foundation Radio as of this writing has about 7,000 songs and about the same amount of Old Time Radio dramas in the library. Not all recordings are of the quality desired. As better quality recordings are obtained the music is updated with the better recording. This is done almost weekly. There are libraries of music available for purchase that would not only upgrade some of the music but add new selections for playing. Depending upon the library, an average price is about $1,000 for songs of a specific format. Foundation Radio has music from many formats.

    $30,000
Foundation Radio has permission to bring in hourly news from VOA (Voice of America.) This is the American version of the BBC. By law the news presented must be unbiased or in theory those guilty of distortions could go to jail. The equipment to make this possible will also allow Foundation Radio to bring in Public Affairs programs from VOA and other sources.

    $200,000
School Sports. It is not cheap to provide good coverage of school sports. Yes, radio stations have been doing so on a shoe string for years. Few listen to these broadcasts because of the poor quality of announcers, feeds, and operations. Foundation Radio wishes to do this as it should be done. At first, varsity sports will be the main focus, and as more support comes in additional sports as well as academic competitions can be added. It isn't all about sports where the kids should be recognized.

    $50,000
Symphonies, Founder's Day, community fairs, and other programming can be very expensive to provide. Either the programming is broadcast live or is recorded for later play back.

Remote Broadcasts Underwriting

    $100,000
Back in the 60s radio stations used to use remote trailers. Often these trailers are placed a day or two in advance to help promote the event scheduled. Foundation Radio should have three of these towed trailers and a remote production vehicle. Think of a bus modified to include a recording studio and production facility.

Studio and Transmitter Sites

    $5000,000
Studio and transmitter sites need up-grading and require additional features. This does not include greening the sites. For example standby transmitters are excellent to have so that maintenance can be carried out on one transmitter while the other is on the air. Studios should include the ability to take any format of audio, including cylinder records and transferring to digital. Several types of tape decks are needed to handle the past formats for recording.

Website Underwriting

$100,000 per website The Foundation has 10 websites. Each site needs to be made more user friendly and to add materials and research to other sites. For example on the President site some of the President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Fireside Chats are available for downloading. It will take financial effort to finish this project. On the Constitution site, some of the world constitutions are not in English. Again, financial effort is needed to make this possible.

If you would like to participate and you do not have the dollars, there are two possibilities:

First, try creating a co-operative of underwriters which can fund the project.
This allows you to pick who you wish to be a part of the project you are helping.

Second, ask the Foundation for some help. There may be several groups known by the Foundation who are thinking similarly as you.

Since the Foundation has websites and radio stations. Your recognition will be far superior than a worth-while golf outing or other good cause.
The public will be well aware of your efforts and commitment to the community.

The Foundation's efforts:

To provide accurate information in order for all of to make better decisions about our community, friends, family, and ourselves.
Good decisions cannot be made based upon poor information.

To provide positive entertainment appropriate for the whole family. Stresses in today's life are causing each of us to think
less of ourselves. The entertainment provided by the Foundation is designed to help remove some of these stresses and
to remind us that we have value and so do those around us.

To provide education by mentioning little reminders on Foundation Radio. A simple good example is during the Swine Flu
epidemic that the flu is not transmitted through pork, unless contaminated by someone infected with the flu.
Also included are simple one liners asking: "Is it time to wash your hands?"

Information from the CDC, and other sources are providing important information so that each of us know how to respond.

To provide promotion of our children in order to create within them a positive outlook of themselves and their efforts.
